The Farm to School Program enriches the connection_commurfities_havehave with

local schools. Students gain access to healthy local foods as well as education
opportunities.
The Marengo County School District is an advocate for providing students
with fresh, local food. The school purchases fruits and vegetables from local farm-
ers through a local food hub in Marengo County called the Deep South Food
Alliance.
The food allliance is a project of the United Christian Community Association
and helps farmers in the community process and sell their fruits and
vegetables. The food alliance works for the farmer by opening new market oppor-
tunities to local farmers in and around Marengo County. They also work with exten-
sion services to conduct experiments with hoop houses and help construct them
for local farmers to expand their crop production. The food hub allows local farm-
ers to use their equipment to help prepare their prouce for restaurants and gro-
cery stores. Celebrate with our local farmers by buying fruits and vegetables from
them.
