For one week, she will become a citizen in an imaginary state, taking part in the political life of her community, primarily through campatgning for and electing city, county and state offices. She will learn the operation of government by participating in party caucuses and through the election process. Well-known speak- ers and other state, county, and city offieials, are expected to visit and to enlighten the young women on their civic responsibilities. Sutton plans to campaign for the office of Circuit Clerk. Miss Aiken will speak to her sponsoring organization. Kiwanis, and to other organi- zations upon 'invitation, about her experiences at the American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State. The daughter of Lisa Moody and Will Aiken and the grand- daughter of Mr.& Mrs. Gwinn Etheredge and Everlou Aiken was selected to attend Alabama Oirls State because of her outstanding leadership. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State is a laboratory of practical government..a per- sonal application of the duties, responsibilities and privileges of American. Her activities and honors are as follows: 9th grade DHS cheerleader, 9th grade FCCLA member. 9th & 10th grade DECA regional winner and state competitor, 9th and 10th grade junior member of the Marengo Historical Society, 10th grade Tigers Arts Guild member, graduate of "Leadership Marengo" and elected to serve as Ambassador for "Leadership Marengo", 10th and llth grade Diamond Doll for DHS baseball team, DTD member. 10th and llth grade home- coming committee member, llth grade prom committee member, Vice President of DHS BETA Club, Science National Honor Society mem- ber, llth grade DECA region- al winner & 1st place state winner in "Advertising Campaign" and International DECA competitor in Salt Lake City, UT in April 2012, served as a little sister for Marengo County's 2011 "Distinguished Young Woman" program, served on the campmgn com- mittee for newly elected Marengo County Circuit Clerk, Kenny Freeman, and she attends "The University of West Alabama" through dual enrollment program.
