The strangest one is Velma Little Mrs. Velma Little was hon- ored on her 90th birthday cele- bration at Linden Elementary School Cafeteria on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. In an informal setting, family members and friends pinned flowers on Mrs. Little for the contributions she has made to them and their families. The Rev. Joseph Harper told how Mrs. Little encouraged him when he first came to Marengo County to pastor Hopewell Baptist Church. She would always say, "I love you, Baby" so he echoed these words to her. The Rev. Jerome Burrell said, as a high school student, he had "camped out" many nights with Mrs. Little when he had no ride home after ball practice. Mrs. Addie Allen, friend of their blind mule that could fide all five children at the same time. Mrs. Little is the mother of five children: Mrs. Machelle . Jackson, Mrs. Gwendolyn i Tucker, and Larry of Linden; Willie and Robert of Flint, : Michigan. She has seventeen grand chil- i dren; twenty great grandchil- : dren, and one great, great grand- : child. Mrs. Little is a member of : Frank Chapel AME Church, : where she serves as mother of : the church. : Mrs. Little says she tiributes i her long life to her faith in God ! and "sticking to the principles : my mama taught me as I was : growing up." i Mrs. Little is the widow of : Herman Little. A highlighted moment of the gospel celebration occurred when Mrs. Little's grandson Bobby ln|| ig Jackson proposed to his girl- friend Ms. Samantha Wright of Sumter County, and she accept- ed his proposal. There was a pause in the celebration as fam- ily members expressed their ela- tion. Mrs. Machelle spoke for the children. She thanked her Mother for all she had done for them, especially the fact that she "had drugged" them to church.
