In recognition of Black History Month and
Elite Lindenite Organization will Sponsor a
biennial Acheivement Awards Banquet February
20 at 6:00 p.m. at Majo's Activity Center.
Senator Bobby Singleton will serve as guest
speaker.
The Elite Lindenite Club beganin 1970 when
four members of the Marathon Wives Club
invited other local women to unite with them. In
1992, the club received its credentials of incor-
poration and is now officially known as The
Elite Lindenite Organization. In 1998, the
organizatio*n received a proclamation from the
state of Alabama for its outstanding community
service.
Since its organization, the club has been suc-
cessful in promoting activities to meet the social
and intellectual needs of the community. One
such need is that of recognizing Blacks who are
making significant contributions to their com-
munities. Illuminating the contributions of local
citizens serves as encouragement for our youth.
The organization will honor several individu-
als who exhibit skills in leadership and com-
muinty service, the 2016 slate includes: Mr.
Chester Moore, Rev. Norris Pauley, Rev.
Jeanette Washington, and Mrs. Cecile B.
Shields-Smith.
A facet of the banquet is dedicated to spot-
lighting honorees who are under thirty-five
years of age, titled Emerging Leaders. Although
youthful, our recipients exhibit humanitarian
efforts in addition to their exemplary selected
careei" objectives. These dynamic young adults
include: Dr. Keturah Craig, Mr. Calvin George
Gamble, Jr., Mr. Jamaal R. Little, Attorney
Leslie Wynona Raby, Mr. Kelvin Robertson, Jr.,
and Rev. DeAyrus Smith.
It has always been the organization's agenda
to allocate a substantial amount of its revenue
and dues toward the granting of scholarships to
deserving students who attend high schools
located in Marengo County. These students
include: Linden High: Aiyana McCaskey, Larry
Lewis, Jr., Jamya Thompson, Angela Carter,
Tahj Johnson; ALJ High: Jameia Jones, Jonae
