Linden B-Team wins,
26-24 thriller over

DeQuan Charleston's base-
line steal and quick layup with
18.5 second remaining lifted the
Linden B-Team past a talented
George E Austin Junior High
School squad, 26-24, Friday,
Jan. 20.
The two clubs met because
John Essex High School does
not have a "B' Team.
Linden grabbed an, 8-2, lead
after the fast quarter, but
George E Austin battled back in
the second period to Wail, 12-
10, at tbe half.
In the third quarter, George E
Austin took a, 19-14, lead, but
was unable to bold Linden off
in the final period.
Linden, trailing, 24-19, with
1:30 remaining, finished the
game on a 7-0 run.
Jarvis Mack led George P.
Austin in scoring with 13
points.
Charleston scored 18 points
to lead Linden.
Sparta Academy

Demopolis split a pair of
games with Sumter Central
Friday, Jail. 20.
The Lady Tigers slipped past
Samter Central, 42-39.
Sumter Central led, 20-19, at
the half.
Tee Perkins led Demopolis
in scoring with 10 points.
Jonniece Collins and Damekeia
Marshall had nine points apiece
for the Lady Tigers.
Lanisha Brown had a game-
high 17 points to lead Sumter
Central.
Sumter Central came back
with a, 64-58, win in the boys
game.
Demopolis got off to a quick
start, taking a, 20-12, lead after
one quarter on the strength of
Mike Scott's 12 points.
The teams played on near-
even terms in the second period,
but the Jaguars cut the deficit to,
34-28, at the half.
Scott finished with a game-
• high 32 points, including seven
3-pointers.

Southern Choctaw

Marengo's Lady Panthers
(11-2) posted a, 50-35, win over
Southern Choctaw Saturday,
Jan. 21.
It was Marengo's second win
of the year over the Lady
Indians.
Marengo struggled early,
trailing, 10-4, at the end of the
first quarter.
The second quarter was an
entirely different story, howev-
er. Marengo went on a 26-2 run
to take a, 32-12, halftime lead.
The Lady Panthers went into
an all-court press in the second
period and Southern Choctaw
never adjusted, committing
numerous turnovers than
Marengo converted into transi-
tion baskets.
The Lady Panthers led, 43-
19, at the end of three quarters.
Junior post player
Tallamachiia Dumas keyed the
win with a game-high 21
points, 15 rebounds and four
blocked shots.
Alesia Bowser scored 9
points and grabbed 10
rebounds, while Sh',kayla
Bouler scored 9 points.
Jashima Hill led Southern
Choctaw wit 18 points.

Jan. 21, with both boys and girls
teams taking wins.
The Lady Bulldogs, led by
Rachael Brownlee's 18 points,
beat Jackson (15-8), 61-42.

points for No. 8 Clarke County
(16-4, 5-1).
Kaitlin Bryant paced the
Lady Aggies with a game-high
23 points.
In the boys game, No. 1
Clarke County (19-1, 6-0) post-
ed a, 67-45, win.
CorDerrio Hasewood led
Clarke County in scoring with
25 points, while teammate
Jamal Harris scored 18.
Hasewood and Harris also had
10 rebounds apiece.
